Sweet Winterland Dreams – The first “Do It Yourself” Market in Tel Aviv

Although Christmas is over, it’s never too late to enjoy the Holiday spirit – that’s why I decided to guide you through Tel Aviv’s very first Winterland Dreams fair. The three days long, colorful market was focusing on the DIY phenomenon, and it will be repeated this spring.

The celebration of fashion, home design and lifestyle included 60 unique booths mixing various designers and brands worth knowing, from Ceramics and home textile through kids and baby products to jewelry, shoes and accessories. I was happy to see that Tel Aviv became a real DIY heaven through the past few years!

DIY stands for “do it yourself”, and it means building, changing, or repairing something without the help of experts. The DIY movement is an amazing urban trend, if it’s about decorating a house, making clothes, or even building one’s own business.

Recently an Italian magazine, Ferramanta2000 featured a four page article about Tel Aviv being the new capital of this creative kind of home improvement: “A country that wouldn’t leave you indifferent, fascinating as it is complicated, Israel is not like any other country, not even when you talk about DIY.” – says the paper.

But it’s not only about the trend: while creating your own projects (even if there are no potentials buyers to pay money for them) keeps you active, creative, stimulates your sense of style, and always saves you from boredom. And most importantly, it gives you the opportunity to fill your flat with items that are not only pretty, but they have special meanings for you.

Some of my favorite counters at the fair (after the one which sold the hot alcoholic cider of course): Netanella‘s beautiful paper crafts, sophisticated serving dishes and kitchen tools by Studio Yaara, handmade shoes by Danit Yaron, awesome stickers and chalkboards for the kitchen by Yael Yaniv, also sold by Marmelada.

As it’s no secret that sooner or later me and my husband are setting up a baby’s room I especially admired  Merrybell’s cute and colorful wall decorations – I’ was even tempted to pimp up our own, “grownup” bedroom with them. My other “must have” baby’s item will be one of Piccolina Boutique‘s smart and pretty wall cushions, making sure the baby doesn’t have to sleep by the cold wall – doing this in a very stylish way.
