Life’s a (Gay) Beach!
The sizzling part of the summer in Israel has irrevocably arrived, and travelling around the country you might need to cool down on the beach every once in a while. Let me guide you to the closest gay-friendly plage, wherever you happen to be in the Holy Land.
Here’s your soundtrack for the post – a video of my friend Raja Raz, starring a few hot guys including myself – blush blush.
Hilton Beach, Tel Aviv
Hilton Beach is one of the most famous coasts of Tel Aviv, and not only because of the surrounding – blooming flowers and white rockery of the ever-green Independence park. The little bay is the place where gay and gorgeous Tel Avivians and visitors show of their hot pants.
The beach hosts LGBT events and gay parties as well. Walk with the city beach promenade North, and once you reach the white sun umbrellas, follow the pier to paradise. For the shy ones: the north part of the beach is pet-friendly, and as we all know, dogs are the best in bringing couples together.
Sharon Beach, Gaash
Gaash Beach is located on the shores of the Hof HaSharon Nature Reservoir, and although it’s not easy to find it, it definitely worth a visit. Turn off the highway by Gaash, and find your way to the beach through the many dirt roads crossing the fields – the sight will fly you to the moon. The scarps and hills around the beach are built up from sandstone, and all together it gives the sensation of being in an other planet.
The coast is never too crowded, and although even families with children come for a dip, it’s mostly visited by gay guys. Happy hours for romance seekers are around sunset. Note: if you want to get rid of that Speedo tanline, this is your place – absolutely no need for bathing pants.
Neve Midbar Beach, Dead Sea
Neve Midbar Beach by the Dead Sea is one of the most famous nudist beach of the Middle East, and it’s very popular within the gay scene.
Two times a year – in June and September – the beach holds parties and live music events, as part of the naturist festival, collaborating with the spiritual and meditation center, Desert Ahram. Enter the reception gate of the beach, the nude plage is about 500 meters away, right behind the hill on your left. Summer Saturdays are the busiest!
Gay-friendly Eilat Beaches
There are no official gay beaches in Eilat, and yet all the beaches – except for the religious one – welcomes LGBT events from time to time. While throughout the year the younger crowd’s favorite is the Village Beach, the annually held Gay Pride Festival in Eilat takes place at the North Beach.
For sunset cocktails and decadent parties check out Dekel Beach, a posh hangout place and bar between the coast of the Le Meridien hotel and the Port of Eilat.
Atlit Beach, near Haifa
Gorgeous, three kilometres long coastline with an ancient fortress right by the sea – Atlit surely has one of the most fascinating beaches in the world. Once a fishing village, then a British military, and now a developing town with a “don’t ask don’t tell” nude beach, primarily visited by the men of Haifa.
Take the Atlit exit off the highway, and crossing the railroad tracks keep driving straight – you’ll end up at the parking lot of the beach. The nude section is about a kilometre long, and extremely pleasant walk North from Atlit.
